Child Support Guidelines In Minnesota
Since January 1, 2007, Minnesota child support guidelines determine support amounts using all of the following:
- The gross income of both parents
- The number of children the parents have
together
- The cost of medical insurance
The guidelines address 3 types of support: basic, medical, and child care support
(daycare_.
The State of Minnesota has put together a very good online child
support calculator Child Support Guidelines Calculator.
While not perfect, it can give a very accurate estimate of the amount of child support the court may order
in your case.
Gross Monthly Income
Gross income consists of the following:
- salary and wages
- commissions
- spousal maintenance
- potential income
- workers’ compensation
- unemployment insurance
- military retirement
- pension and disability payments
- Social Security benefits received by a parent
based on the parent’s own eligibility
- Social Security benefits paid for a joint child based on a parent’s eligibility
- income from self-employment or operation of a
business
Gross income does not include
- Overtime (unless it is required for work)
- Child support received for other children
- Spouse or significant other's income
- Public Assistance
- Child Support paid
- Spousal Maintenance paid
